5 Tips to Avoid a Bad Hair Day

Some say our tresses are a lady’s greatest assets, well we couldn’t agree more.

From short to long hairstyles, it’s safe to say that we are quite the clingy lot. We hold on dear to our hair because it’s all part of the package of looking good.

Now, we can do a lot of things to keep our locks in tip-top condition. But perhaps, there are days when it does not co-operate and we end up with unruly mane of a lioness. Here are 5 simple tips to help you avoid bad hair day and still look like your fine self.

#1 Soda Power

Most of the time, the complaint is limp hair. When you’re in the shower, sprinkle a small amount of baking soda into your palm and mix with your shampoo. Lather as per usual while giving your scalp a good scrub. The baking soda work to remove the buildup residue from the styling products you’ve been using. This helps to make hair cleaner and manageable.

#2 Rinse and Repeat

It is worth all the time you spend in the bathroom to rinse your hair clear of shampoo and conditioner after every wash. Leaving traces of cleansing and conditioning agents can result in a buildup as well. Thus, hair appears sticky, flat and heavy, not to mention your scalp will itch and be irritated.

#3 Dry Sensibly

Wet or damp hair are more vulnerable to lose its shape. So, the best thing to do is blow your hair dry from the roots up and away from the direction or style you want to achieve. This will help create fullness and make hair easier to manage. And if you have the time, alternate between hot and cold air, the former helps to form the style while the latter helps to keep it there.

Trending – Pyjamas as Glamour Wear

It was not too long ago when it was all the rage to wear your inner wear as outerwear. Think camisole, silk slip-ons, corsets, etc. Now, there seems to be an unlikely hit trend of wearing your pyjamas as daywear?

From the catwalk, Stella McCartney’s Spring-Summer 2012 collection

The idea of wearing your pyjamas out is not new actually. It first made an appearance in the early 2000 and has since popped out throughout the years in 2009 and 2011. Now, they are back with a vengeance.

If this trend takes off, it would be not too far off to see women jumping out of bed and ditching the idea of getting dressed altogether. It is effortless and a tad too comfortable to say the least. The out of bed look is sure to get people to look twice.

How to pull off the pyjamas look?

Get the right fit. Don’t get pieces that are too loose and you’ll end up looking sloppy and slouchy. The best bet is to get a snugged fit which will highlight your body yet not too tight that you look like a sack of potatoes.

Mix and match. Wear a silk buttoned down top paired with tailored pants and blazer for a chic smart look. If you’re daring enough, get a top and long bottom set in solid colour or wild prints and accessorise with high heels, clutch and chunky jewellery.

Keep it short. This will flatter most people; wear your pyjamas top with a matching short to avoid the ‘ready-for-bed’ look. Cinch with a thin belt and dress up with high heels for added sophistication.

Hair Trend : Rainbow Colours for the Fierce

Depending on the shock factor you want, there are different varieties of rainbow-coloured goodness you can put your hair through:

Look #1: Dip-dye

Firstly, you may opt to just dip-dye the tips of your hair a certain colour. This is the safest option if you have a more serious job and you can always tie your hair up in a bun and tuck the ends under. If you have dark hair, go for deep purples and pinks to avoid shocking your straight-laced boss who will insist no client will be able take you seriously just because you have a tinge of hot-pink on your hair. Honestly.

Look #2: Block-colour

For the more daring, go through a process of bleaching your hair a couple of times and choosing a nice bright or pastel colour for your whole head. This may range from candy pinks, to neon greens, or even a silver white!

Look #3: Rainbow-goodness!

And finally, if you’re ready to take the leap into crazy awesomeness – use a multitude of colours, why stick to just one or two? We recommend sticking to a theme though ie. pastels, rainbow-brite, neons, etc. Since the chances of us mere mortals ever seeing a unicorn are close to none, just the sight of your glorious rare mane will put a smile to most faces! So, don’t do it for yourself – do it for the sake of humanity.

Stellar Boutique

A good boutique is like a treasure trove that you can just spend hours looking through the shelves and racks for that perfect piece, that’s what Stellar is all about.

According to Bono, what started out as a passion for fashion and unique clothing has now turned into a full time obsession of some sort. Initially, she began selling stuff through an online blogshop and gradually, she moved on to bigger things with a stand alone boutique opened at a local shopping mall before finally occupying its current spot in a shop lot.

Her main intention was just to share what she loves with anyone who was interested. It was a way of meeting like-minded people and the satisfaction one gets from such an experience was priceless, she explains to us.

When we paid a visit to the shop, it was rather interesting to see the designs of up and coming designers. Stellar has a good mix of traditional, vintage and modern wear in its outlet sourced from various parts of the country as well as overseas.
